During my move from Osnabrück to Hamburg I found an information sheet about an exhibition of Catherine Opie I´ve been to in 2008 at Guggenheim in NY. I can remember that I´ve been really impressed by her work, mostly by her family pictures. I had kind of problems to litter that two sheets of paper, because I was thinking if I do I´ll forget about the great photographer, her work, and my memory about her exhibition at Guggenheim. To finally say farewell to my information brochure collection, here at least one short entry about her.

Catherine Opie born 1961 in Sandusky | Ohio, “is an Amarican artist specializing in issues within documentary photography. Throughout her work she has investigated aspects of community, making portraits of many groups including LGBT community; surfers; and most recently high school football players. She is also interested in how identities are shaped by our surrounding architecture. Opie is currently a professor of Photography at University of California at Los Angeles. Her works are displayed in both museums and galleries internationally. Opie obtained a master’s degree from California Institute of the Arts, School of Arts in 1988.”
